Kennel Clubs New Building Stoneleigh 29 August 2008
At the opening of the new building Aricia displayed the Kennel Club Safe & Sound Scheme.
 
Birmingham Champ Show 30 August 2008
Aricia All Spice 'Ross gained first place in the Veteran class.
Kehala Touch of Gold 'Zena'; won Puppy  Bitch, also Best Puppy in Breed & Best Bitch in Breed, In puppy stakes she was in the last 8 in a class of 40.
 

Ch. Talamo Luna CDex.  - Born 18 Oct.1996
It is with deep regret that we report Luna was put to rest on 18 August 2008. She was a wonderful specimen of the breed who was the first Champion Belgian Shepherd Tervueren to be awarded CDex Working Trials Qualification.  She gained Best of Breed at Crufts in 1999.  In addition Luna took part in many displays including Crufts ‘Safe & Sound Scheme’. She gained her GCDS Gold award whilst still a pup & later in life won out of Starters Heel-work to Music.


 

APDT / James Wellbeloved- Tails of Achievement Awards 2008.

Two of our members have qualified for the finals.
Emily Hinks aged 6 with her Border Collie Flo and Joan Smith with her crossbreed Judy. We all wish them an enjoyable and successful day. They  have been invited, along with 13 other finalists to the full day presentation ceremony to take place at Newbury Race Course on Saturday 13 th. September. Carole will also be attending.
 
Saturday 16th August 2008
Kehala Touch of Gold 'Zena' age 9 mths. won her puppy class at the Welsh Kennel Club Champ. Show.
She went on to be awarded Best Puppy in Breed and the Reserve Challenge Certificate.

Kennel Club Good Citizen Stakes held at Hatchford Brook,  Nr. Coventry.

Spice 3rd.
Zena 5th. (just missed qualifying for the semi finals again by 1 place, 1, 2 & 3rd  had previously qualified)
There were 41 in the class.

Kate & Gin (Britain's got talent) have now confirmed that they will DISPLAY & Judge
the Heelwork to Music.

Carole & Stewart have just enjoyed a week at the Y.K.C. Camp training its members and enjoying their social activities.
Many thanks to two Senior members Rebeca & Helen who both helped with Bronze testing.

1st  Aricia Five Spice  ('Spice') handled by Carole.
2nd  Kehala Touch of Gold ('Zena') handled by Carole.
4th Springcurl La Fenice ('Pheonix')

5th Aricia Five Spice ('Spice') handled by Carole and awarded Certificate of Merit.
Kehala True Love Ways ('Buddy') handled by Thelma Cook.

Zena won her class and was awarded Best Tervueren pup, she also gained Reserve Best of Breed.

Zena was placed 3rd in BSD Terv. Puppy Bitch at the Three Counties Championship Dog Show

Zena was awarded Best Puppy at Bolesworth Castle Companion Dog Show.

Congratulations to Kate & Gin on a superb performance at the Semi Finals of Britain's Got Talent. What a tremendous achievement from this young pair.

Kate Nicholas with Gin will appear on ITV1 on Bank Holiday Monday (26th) at 9pm.  We wish her every success.

17th May 2008 at  Southport Alsation Training Club - GSDS Special Pre-Beginners Obedience Stakes

Aricia had five placings in the first twelve from a class of 37.

  • 2nd Thelma Cook and Buddy qualified for the semi finals in Scotland.
  • 3rd Sophie Howard and Fly.
  • 10th Carole and Spice.  (Spice was off colour and had been to the vets with a damaged dew claw)
  • Joint 11th our new pup Zena (6 mths and 1 week) and  Charolotte Hunt & Phoenix

12th May 2008 - Blue Cross Tea Party

Aricia raised £141 for the Blue Cross  (one party after each class through the week)

29th April 2008 - K.C.   G.C.D.S. Silver Awards

22nd April 2008 - Britain's Got Talent

We are delighted that Kate Nicholas with Gin have deservedly reached the semi-finals of the prestigious show, to be broadcast live, week commencing 26th May.  Kate, her family and dogs have all attended Aricia since 2001.  Please support Kate & Gin to help in getting through to the final.  (For those who missed the performance a DVD can be loaned from us)

Carole & Stewart's Zahra (unfortunately no longer here) and Helen's Zeta are to be screened on BBC's 'Return of Vets in Practice' programme at approx. 7,30pm 11th June 2008.

 

29th March 2008

On Saturday 29th March 2008 Zena handled by Carole and Pumpkin handled by Mandy Edwards passed the G.C.D.S.  Bronze under Examiner Val Harvey Chairman of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers.

Carole would like to thank all assessors, helpers, handlers and dogs who took part in making the Association of` Pet Dog Trainers assessment weekend a success.

28th February 2008

Aricia Dog Training run by Carole & Stewart Thornley have once again been asked to provide the only display team for the Safe & Sound Scheme at Crufts. The team of 40 will display in the Arena on Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th March. In addition smaller teams will display in rings in Hall 3 on all 4 days of the show. This includes the Good Citizen Dog Scheme ring & for the first time the YKC ring.
 

We are pleased that from the total of 11 dogs in the team 2 Belgian Shepherds are represented. Stewart will be handling Aricia All Spice CDex (Ross) & Laura Wilcox will be handling Xurits Diezel of Ailort (Diezel).
 

The scheme aims to teach children and adults the correct approach to dogs and how to react in the event of being afraid. This year sees a revised display, the children are to dress as pirates.
 

Saturday 27th October 2007
 

7 members of Waggtails School of Dog Training along with 5 other candidates were successful in gaining the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Awards. 7 Bronze, 4 Silver, 1 Gold.

Photographic Competition

At the Northern Belgian Shepherd Show all the entries submitted for the Annual Photo Competition were on display.
Aricia photographers gained the following successes:

  • 1st & 2nd in the action section.
  • 1st & 2nd in the full body shot section.
  • 2nd in the head shot section.

Sunday 14th October 2007- Northern Belgian Shepherd Show at Durham, Carole & Spice won the pre-beginners and beginners classes.

Saturday 13 October 2007 at  the Reedyford Obedience Show, Carole & Spice gained 6th place in the K.C. Special Stakes class which had an entry of 40 dogs. Charlotte Hunt & Julie Wright also did very well in this class.
 
 

10th October 2007

Aricia Dog Training held their annual Companion dog Show on Sunday 30th. September. 120 dogs with their families enjoyed the show in lovely weather conditions. Classes included Pedigree, Non pedigree, Novelty, Handling in the show category: 3 obedience classes and a further Fun obedience class. Several entrants showed their skills in heel-work to music- the class winner being local 15 year old Kate Nicholas with her working sheepdog Gin.
 

The Show raised £500 after expenses which is to be split between Belgian Shepherd Rescue & The League of Friends of Whitchurch Community Hospital.
 

The Novelty section was judged by local-vet & T.V. presenter Steve Leonard.
 

Thanks to all the sponsors, judges, helpers and to Mr. & Mrs. R.Bradshaw for the use of their land for car parking.

T.V. celebrity, Steve Leonard, veterinary surgeon and wildlife presenter, is to judge at the Aricia Companion Dog Show to be held at Bridge Farm on 30th September 2007.

Carole successfully completed the Association of Pet Dog Training Assessors course.

8th May 2007

Julia Kenyon and Spike gained first place in starters and hopefuls obedience at David Davies Show, Caersws.

May 2007

Carole & Aricia Five Spice CDex gained first place in Adult handling at Rossendale Borough D.T. which qualifies them for Coventry L.K.C. competition in 2008.

Treasure Hunt Walk raised £135 from entries, sale of lunches and handmade cards by Tony & Val Webster.

Carole and Stewart are pleased to be invited by the Young Kennel Club to tutor the Good Citizen Dog Scheme at the YKC Summer Camp from 28 July to 3 August 2007.  Please note due to this there will not be any classes from 27 July until Monday 6th August 2007.

7th April 2007

Alex came 1st in Junior Handling (12-16 yrs) at the National Terrier Championship Show on 7th April 2007.  There was some stiff competition in her class and some good handlers, she did well.  The judge was Dot Britten (Krisma).

16th January 2007 

A cheque for £260 has been presented to ‘The Friends of Whitchurch Hospital’  The money was raised thanks to a Sponsored Treasure Hunt Walk organised be Aricia Dog Training. Despite wet weather conditions and muddy fields it was attended by 24 handlers and their dogs who thoroughly enjoyed finding clues as well as the exercise. On completion there was a hot lunch served at the centre. Audrey Hughes with her dog Emily won the prize for raising £65. While Pauline Furber of Tern Hill won the ‘Highest Score Prize’.

Its thanks to Mr & Mrs. Richard Bradshaw of Vine Yard Farm who allowed the walk to take place on their land.

Aricia are now rehearsing in preparation for the ‘Safe & Sound Display’ at Crufts.

Ross' Aricia All Spice CDex gained 2nd place in Post Graduate Tervuren Dog under Judge Terry Thorn.  The judge gave Best of Breed to Ch Talamo Notorious who went on to gain Group One.  He is one of the pups which we looked after for 3 weeks whilst Jenny Eaves, his breeder, went to the USA.

Alex Norcross is one of our young members who has recently joined the YKC & attended the YKC Competition at WKC  where she made the following achievements:
  • 1st place in Grooming
  • 1st place in Handling 12—16 yrs.
  • 2nd in Breed class with ‘Molly’Border Terrier
  • 3rd in Obedience

At the Three Counties Show Ground, Carole & Luna were placed second in their freestyle heel work to music class doing their routine to the Clog Dance.  This was their first licensed Kennel Club Event.

A social evening and buffet for the Crufts display team was held in the music room at Bridge Farm on 22nd April 06 and enjoyed by the 50 member who attended.  A raffle together with the sale of floral arrangements created by Rosie Rees raised a total of £55 to be donated to 'The Friends of Whitchurch Hospital'. A photographic quiz, arranged by John Harding was enjoyed by all.

 

30th March 2006

Aricia All Spice (Ross) was awarded CDex at Tewkesbury Working Trials Champ Trial.  Ross now joins his  mum Ch Talamo Luna CDex and sister Spice with this qualification.

BBC Shropshire visited Bridge Farm to film part of the preparation  for the 'Safe & Sound' demonstration to be given at Crufts on 9th and 10th March.
