Aricia D.T. had the privilege of providing a team comprising 6 dogs with handlers, 11 children & 4 assistants to display the Kennel Club “Safe & Sound” scheme at Crufts 2007. They gave 11 displays over the 4 day show in both the Good Citizen Dog Scheme ring and in the Arena. In the Arena the Shropshire based centre joined 20 of their “Old” mates from Lancashire to supply the only “Safe & Sound” team in the country to display this initiative. B.S.D. Terv. Aricia All Spice C.D.ex. (Ross) together with a further 2 dogs & handlers & 3 children aged 6 to 12, with team leader Carole Thornley also attended the Crufts launch & press release on the Tuesday prior to the shows commencement. As a result, excerpts from the display, along with interviews were featured on ITV Central News in order to highlight the importance of approaching dogs correctly. BBC Breakfast TV also featured the Aricia team giving information & advice on the “Safe & Sound” procedure. On the final day of the show, the team were presented with certificates by the K.C. Chief Executive Rosemary Smart & the Chairman Ronnie Irving who praised their specialised performance. The Kennel Club are also making a DVD. featuring the Aricia Team Members to be archived and for distribution around schools to pass on the message. Having been given special permission from the Kennel Club to display "Safe & Sound" we are promoting this worth while initiative at the Pets & People Show to be held at Weston Park; for the R.S.P.C.A. at Telford, local displays and for the Kennel Club at The National War Museum Gala Day in Manchester which is to be opened by our local vet Steve Leonard.

Aricia Dog Training are preparing for a special
display in the Special Events Ring at Crufts Dog Show, March 2006.
This is a relatively new initiative of the Kennel Club
aimed at teaching children (and adults) how to react in a safe and sound
way around dogs to help prevent unnecessary accidents.
There are 12 dogs and their handlers rehearsing with
20 children aged between 6 and 14. The scene is partially set to music,
with dogs, handlers and children acting out various scenarios. The
overall aim is to prevent children from disturbing puppies and dogs when
the animals are sleeping, eating, playing and when tied up. Children
follow rules of asking owners permission before approaching a dog and
are encouraged to use a closed fist for the dog to sniff before
stroking under the chin.
Crufts this year is being held 9th – 12th
March at N.E.C. Birmingham.
Because of organisation and numbers involved, Aricia
are hoping to travel to NEC by coach. Anyone who would like to sponsor,
please contact Carole or Stewart Tel. No. 01948 667413
